In-Grown Toenails

An in-grown toe-nail occurs when the nail grows into the surrounding skin rather than growing up straight. This could be due to irregular shaped nails or a sharp spike of nail left after cutting. Symptoms can vary from a slight pain at the side of the nail, to severe pain and infection when the nail has deeply penetrated the skin. Treatment is dependent upon severity. Cutting the jagged portion of nail out may be enough in mild cases, but more extreme cases may require nail surgery.
