WOMEN’S HEALTH OSTEOPATHY
There is an emerging specialist branch of Osteopaths choosing to specialize in all things Women’s Health, particularly during a woman’s most physically adaptive time of her life – pregnancy and birth!
WHY SEE AN OSTEOPATH?
During pregnancy the pelvis is ever adapting to the increasing weight and of baby’s position. The mobility and correct alignment of the pelvis is of utmost importance during this time to comfortably carry baby and ultimately for when the time of birth arrives.
A GOOD BIRTH?
During the stages of birth, the pelvic bones have a crucial role in allowing baby to move through the birth canal correctly.
One of the most frequent bones to be restricted during labour is the Sacrum, it is the large triangular bone at the base of your spine. The Sacrum needs to hinge to open like a ‘trap door’ within the pelvis to allow baby enough room to exit into the world. Now can you imagine how hard it is for the sacrum to do that if you are lying on your back during labour?
Great birthing positions aid the free movement of the Sacrum, such as squatting, on all fours or sidelying. Keeping mobile and active during labour helps the pelvis stay mobile and able to adapt to the stages of pregnancy.
