C-Section Scar Therapy
Aiding softening, flattening, and improving the appearance of scars whilst addressing pain.
What is it?
After a Caesarean section procedure and resultant scar, it isn’t unusual for symptoms of discomfort of and surrounding the scar to develop.
Women can often feel tightness, pain, swelling and sensitivity around the scar. Appearance of scars can also appear uneven, inflamed, and raised.
THE FOUR MAIN BENEFITS
Aesthetics
A common complaint regarding C-section scars is the formation of a ‘shelf’, specialist massage techniques can help flatten and soften the appearance of scars and this ‘shelf-like’ appearance.
Circulation
This is key for draining inflammation from tissues and getting new nutrients and oxygen to areas in need. Massage can help lymphatic drainage, aiding the healing process.
Who?
This specialist therapy requires additional training, and following personal experience of Caesarean sections herself, Jenna Dockerill our experienced Osteopath has trained in this therapy after discovering a lack of support post-section along her own recovery journey.
Motion
Targeting muscles of the abdomen and lower back can help improve elasticity of the abdomen and general range of movement.
Sensitivity
Over-sensitive nerve endings can often cause itching, burning or sharp shock like pains. Using massage techniques can help aid sensory repair leading to the desensitisation of these nerve endings.
