Marathon Training

Whether you are training for a marathon or a seasoned runner, should you invest in Sports Massage Therapy to benefit performance?

Professional athletes are renowned for rigorous training regimes to get top results, however for the rest of us holding down work and family life balance, its just not possible to get close to the hours professionals can commit in the quest for a new PB.

BUT.. can we squeeze in a performance boosting treat for our muscles and our (in)sanity?

We think so.. here’s why:

DOMS

Running long distances can often cause Delayed Onset Muscle Soreness, occurring most commonly 1-2 days after a difficult or longer run. During periods of training where mileage peaks and demands are increasing, Sports Massage is useful to alleviate pain, reduce recovery time and ultimately making you more effective at your next run.

SHORT MUSCLES?

Intense training increases physical stress on the body, by adding extra demands when training for an event can cause muscle shortening at a faster rate than they typically would when solely running as part of a fitness routine. A deep tissue sports massage can help soften and allow muscles to maintain flexibility for better performance.

OXYGEN

An absolute essential ingredient for muscle fibres to be able to change shape and contract, improving blood flow to allow Oxygen to reach and supply the large muscle groups required for a powerful run has clear benefits. Let it flow, let it flow.

STRESS

Psychological benefits of massage therapy have been well documented, and when training for a marathon or event it can take it’s toll in many ways. Making time for a pause and treating your muscles to some much needed attention, you’ll be feeling lighter on the way out - that’s what we’ve been told anyway!
